? How can I have my transfer work evaluated?
Students who submit official transcripts with their application for admission, will have their work evaluated. An academic checksheet will be sent to the student. If a student would like an informal review of their transfer work before applying, they should send a list of their transfer coursework to:
MSU-Registrar’s Office b.bennington@moreheadstate.edu
Attn: Brad Bennington
201 Ginger Hall 606-783-9103 fax
Morehead, KY 40351
All coursework accepted as transfer work will be evaluated individually. Some/all of your coursework will be substituted for an MSU course automatically. Coursework in your major area of study may need to be evaluated by the appropriate department. Courses not substituted for an MSU course will be counted as elective credit (except for developmental coursework).
Courses from selected schools are listed on an equivalency chart. Keep in mind, if you do not find your school or a particular course listed on the equivalency chart, it does not mean that we will not accept it as transfer credit.
? What is General Education Certification?
Students attending a Kentucky public college/university may utilize General Education Certification. More information on General Education Certification can be found at the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education web site. Morehead State University fully supports the Block Transfer of Academic Credit Policies as defined by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. Transfer students bringing Block course certification to the University from other participating institutions can be assured that these certifications will be honored.
? I am enrolled in a Kentucky public college, which participates in General Education Block Transfer Certification. How does this work?
We do honor General Education Certification. How this will affect your checksheet depends on what level of certification you have received and what program of study you pursue. For example, if you are fully certified, and pursuing a University Studies degree, your GNED will be waived. However, if you are pursuing a BBA at MSU and have never taken a Business Statistics course, you will be required to take MATH 354 even though you are fully certified. Your GNED will be waived, but in this case, MATH 354 is required as part of the major. Any courses specifically required in your program of study will need to be completed regardless of your certification level.
? My school is on the quarter system. How will this fit into the semester system at MSU?
Transfer credits from a regionally accredited quarter school will be accepted and converted to semester hours. One quarter hour is equal to 2/3 a semester hour. For example, a 4 quarter hour class equals 2.67 semester hours, a 3 quarter hour class equals 2 semester hours.
? If I have taken a course at a quarter school that is equivalent to a 3 hour course at MSU, but it is only worth 2.67 semester hours, how does this work?
If we accept ENG 101, for example, from a quarter school as a substitute for ENG 100 here at MSU, we will normally honor the substitution even if it is .33 hours less (i.e. 2.67 vs. 3 hours). However, students will still need to meet the minimum number of hours required for the major and degree.
? Do you accept AP/CLEP credit?
Yes, AP scores can be sent to the Testing Center, 501A Ginger Hall, Morehead, KY 40351. We offer CLEP examinations here at MSU through the Testing Center.
? Will my coursework be considered lower division or upper division at MSU?
Your transfer coursework will be accepted at the level it was taught at the transfer institution. For example, if we substitute BIOL 221 (lower division) for BIOL 301 (upper division), it will still be considered lower division credit. Or, if you took HIS 331 and we substituted it for HIS 288, it would be considered upper division credit. One note of caution: not all schools use levels of 100 & 200 for lower division and 300 and above for upper level coursework. If your school has a different numbering system, we will convert it accordingly.
