Members of the Instructional Leadership faculty most often teach in their areas of research and related experiences.  The courses listed below are the ones that I most frequently teach.  Course descriptions are from the MSU Graduate Catalog.  Since all the courses I teach are either 100% on-line or Internet supported, I rely heavily on MSU's Blackboard site.  An extensive number of documents, links and information related to each course are accessible through Blackboard. 

EDIL 601 - Introduction to School Leadership

The focus of this course will be a study of modern administrative theories, processes, techniques and responsibilities, with an emphasis on understanding schools as complex organizations and facilitating leadership to create a work climate supportive of excellence in teaching and learning.  Emphasis will be given to the organization and administration of the elementary school, middle grade school, and secondary school.  (Course syllabus)

EDIL 610 - Practicum in School Administration (Principal)

This course provides students an opportunity to understand the role of the principal with an emphasis on changes in society and in the school through time spent interacting with practicing school administrators at school site locations.  (Course syllabus)

EDIL 618 - School Finance

School finance examines both district-level and school-level finance and school business management to include national, state, and local issues.  School support services are also examined including transportation, facility planning and maintenance, food service, and risk management.  (Course syllabus)

EDIL 619 - Technology and Best Practices for School Improvement

This course provides a study of best practices for school improvement documented by research and application of the use of modern technological tools in instructional and administrative processes-evaluation of hardware and software for both instructional uses and administrative tools, review of computer programs, and basic competency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. The course also examines the use of the Internet and other on-line tools for instructional and administrative purposes.  (Course syllabus)

EDIL 621 - Research for Instructional Leadership

This course provides a general study of school leadership and administrative responsibilities, with emphases on understanding schools as complex organizations and facilitating leadership to create a work climate supportive of excellence in teaching and learning.  (Course syllabus)

EDIL 631A - Practicum in District Administration - Supervisor of Instruction

This field experience course is related to the instructional leadership for the district with emphasis given to the specific level, Supervisor of Instruction through a minimum of fifty (50) clock hours at that level.  The field experience will be with a cooperating administrator (instructional supervisor) who has successfully completed a minimum of three years at the supervisor's level and is approved by the Instructional Leadership faculty.  (Course syllabus)

EDIL 631 - B Practicum in District Administration - Superintendent of Schools

The course is a clinic field experience.   The field experience is related to instructional leadership for the district with an emphasis given to the specific level, Superintendent of Schools through a minimum of one-hundred (100) clock hours at that level.  The field experience will be with a cooperating school administrator who has successfully completed a minimum of three years as a superintendent and is approved by the Instructional Leadership faculty.   (Course syllabus)

EDIL 641 - School Superintendent

This course explores the role of the superintendent; conflicts, challenges, decision-making and other leadership opportunities often faced by today's superintendent.  The course is designed for administrators dealing with the basic functions, duties, responsibilities and the problems or current issues confronting today's superintendent including fiscal affairs, legislation, support services, communication, evaluation and accountability, and instructional leadership.  (Course syllabus)
