Dr. Paul Taylor, currently associate professor of piano at Morehead State University, and artist-in Residence at the Downing Performing Arts Academy has performed throughout the United States, Italy and Mexico as a piano soloist. He also has appeared with the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and the University of Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. As an accompanist and chamber musician, he has worked with members of the Rome Opera, the Joffrey Ballet, the Budapest Quartet and the Birmingham Arts trio
He performs regularly on the Heidelberg Contemporary Music Festival and the Pleasant Mountain Music Festival, and, in 2000, performed in Taichung, Khiousiung, and Taipei, Taiwan, where he performed the Rachmaninoff Third Concerto as well as giving masterclasses in each of these cities. Also, in 2003 he was invited to perform at the University of Wisconsin on the Distinguished Musical Alumni series, and last year his lecture/recital entitled “The Reincarnation of Schumann’s Musical Imagination” was accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Arts and Humanities in Honolulu, Hawaii.
In addition to performing, Dr. Taylor has maintained his devotion to teaching, having published several articles in the American Music Teacher magazine, Piano Guild Notes, and Keyboard Companion magazine. He has presented at both national and state level MTNA conferences. Most recently his multiple piano arrangement of the Rachmaninov Third Piano Concerto was performed by the “Concerto Takes Manhattan Keyboard Ensemble” in New York City at the Yamaha Piano Salon on Fifth Avenue
This year will mark his tenth year as director of the Morehead State Annual Piano Festival and Monster Concert, offered each year as a performance opportunity for both amateur and professional pianists. In addition to solo works, works for piano ensemble are featured. Last year the festival’s finale featured a piano arrangement for 24 players of Mozart’s “Overture To The Marriage of Figaro.” Finally, Dr. Taylor also directed a revival of the new Daniel Boone Forest Music Camp last Summer at Morehead State University, a music camp devoted to a week of instruction and concerts for high school students.
