Physical Education

Hello, welcome to Physical Education.  In this class we will spend a lot of time discussing physical activity and the importance of it.  We will also spend time working on lifetime activities that will hopefully inspire you and teach you something new about physical activity.  I will also cover some basic fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, and kicking.  We will work on strength training and I will teach you different exercises that will help you increase your strength whether you want to buff up or just tone.  Finally, I will give you the opportunity to participate in many different activities and sports throughout the class.

Purpose:  This activity allows the students to practice their                                   dribbling skills and ball control.

Activity 2  Red Light Green Light

Each student will line up at one end of the gym with their own                                 soccer ball.  With their back towards the students, the caller                                will shout "red light" or "green light."  On green light, the                                 students must dribble the soccer ball down the floor.  On red                                   light, the students must stop and control the ball by using the                                    wedge trap.  The first student to reach the caller wins!

Purpose:  This activity allows the students to practice their                                   dribbling skills, trapping skills, and ball control.

Activity 3  Loft Ball In Zone

Purpose:  This activity lets the students practice the loft pass                                       as well as their accuracy while performing this skill.

Pair the students and scatter them around the playing area.  Have the students pass the soccer ball while leading their partners going down the floor.  When a student has possession of a ball, they will dribble it 3 times before passing it.  Once the students reach the end of the course, the student in possession of the ball kicks a goal.

Purpose:  This activity works on passing with dominant and dominant foot and inside and outside of foot in combination with communication between the partners.  It also helps for accuracy for goal kicking.

Activity 2  Pass and Trap with Partner

Pair the students and scatter them around the playing area.      Have the students pass the ball to their partner.  The partner      will trap the ball before passing it back to their partner.  Use          the same pattern as in activity #1.  After they reach the end         of the course, have the students turn around and go back down    the floor.

Purpose:  This activity allows the students to work on their       basic passing and trapping skills and communication.  The   student will work on leading their partner and ball control.

Activity 3  Throw In and Trap Drill

Pair the students and scatter them around the playing area.      Have the students use a throw in to pass the soccer ball to their partner.  The partner will trap the ball and dribble the     ball before passing it back to their partner.  Students will need      to direct their partner to let them know where they want the   pass.

Purpose:  This activity allows the students to practice their      throw in's, and trapping, dribbling, and passing skills.  The   students must communicate to make accurate passes and traps.

Activity 4  Partner Pass and Score

Pair students together and have the students dribble and pass the soccer ball along the outside walls of the gym.  Once they reach a specified goal, the student with possession of the ball will kick to score a goal.  Remind students to keep the kicks low for safety.

Purpose:  This activity allows the students to practice their passing and communication skills.  It also provides a safe environment for kicking goals.

Skill 1  Passing Downfield with a Defender

                     Learning Cues:

      Short, Controlled Passes

Use dominant and non-dominant foot and inside and outside of foot

Move to where your partner can make an accurate pass

Position should allow short controlled passes

Watch to know when pass is coming (communication)

      Get open for the pass

Put your back between the ball and the defender

  Defender Cues:

-   Hands up to defend ball

-   Defender tries to steal the ball away from opponent

DAY 3

Stage III Activities/Drills:

Activity 1  Passing Downfield with Defender

Pair the students in the class.  One pair will act as passive defenders when the other pairs will attempt to pass the soccer ball downfield.  The pairs of students will line up at the beginning of the course.  One at a time, a pair of students will dribble and pass down the field.  When they reach a defending zone, they will maneuver to complete the pass to their partner.  Once they have passed through both zones, they will practice dribbling and passing back to the start line and begin again.  Change the defenders periodically throughout the activity.  Purpose: This activity emphasizes communication between partners and defending the ball before passing.  The defensive player needs to be passive to add a little of difficulty for the passing pair of students.

Activity 2  Throw In and Trap with a Defender

Divide the students in groups of 3 and scatter the groups around the playing area.  Have the students use a throw in to pass the soccer ball to their partner while the defender is present.  The partner will attempt to trap and dribble the ball before passing it back to their partner.  Students need to make sure they keep their back between the defender and the ball.  They will also need to direct their partner to let them know where they want the pass.  Switch roles after each completed sequence.

Purpose:  This activity allows the students to practice their throw in's, and trapping, dribbling, and passing skills.  The students must communicate to make accurate passes and traps to defend the ball against the opponent.

                   Activity 3  Keep Away Soccer

Group the students into 3 or 4 teams.  Scatter the groups around the gym so that the teams have an even field to play on.  One student will be the defender and the other students will attempt to complete 5 passes and keep the ball away from the defender.  If a ball goes out of bounce, the passing team starts over with the number of passes.  Switch roles after 5 completed passes.

Purpose:  This activity gives the students an opportunity to practice their communication, passing, and dribbling skills.  They will also practice getting open for the passes and protecting the ball once a pass is received.  This activity gives the students a competition feel of the games.

Activity 4  Throw In and Score with Defender

Divide the students into groups of 3.  Place each group with a   designated goal.  One student will be the defender and the     other 2 students will be on the offensive.  One student will use        the throw in pass to get the soccer ball in play and then enters the playing area.  The other student will control the ball before         they pass.  The defender will try to steal the ball from his      opponents.  Once the ball is in play and 2 passes have been   made, the student in possession of the ball may kick the ball           and try to score.

Purpose:  This activity practices all skills and concentrates on             defending and communication along with adding the element of         team work.  X=Defender  X=Offensive Players

Activity 5  In and Out Completion

Divide the students in teams of 3 and hand out pennies to the teams.  The object of this activity is to make 6 consecutive passes.  Out of bounds or 6 consecutive passes results in    another team entering the game.

Purpose:  This activity emphasizes communication and basic passing and defending skills.

DAY 4

Stage IV Skills/Activities/Drills:

Activity 1  Three on Three Soccer

Set up 2 designated goals and divide the students into groups of 3.  This activity is a modified soccer game.  Two teams will play with the soccer rules.  Once a goal is made, the next team will come in.  The scoring team stays on the floor.  If the ball is kicked out of bounds, another team replaces the team who kicked it out of bounds.

Purpose:  This activity allows the students to practice communication and offensive and defensive plays.  Students need to practice ball control and also control their passes.  This activity also adds the element of competition in the game.
